Picture of the day: Coco Chanel by Marie Laurencin

Last week I  discovered Marie Laurencin, an artist who until then was unknown - to me - and I wonder how on earth I didn't know her art before.  Her paintings stand out, by their pastel palette, their dream-like style and appearance.
Marie Laurencin was a friend of Picasso and the circle of painters and poets surrounding him.  For a while she lived a well-known love story with the poet Apollinaire.
This is a painting is called "Portrait de Mademoiselle Chanel", and it is made in 1923.  The portrait can be seen at the Orangerie Museum in Paris, with three other works of Marie Laurencin.
